Detailed Description
This Yamaha YUX was built in the mid-1980’s, during Yamaha’s Golden Age of piano building, when all of the manufacturing took place in Japan, and by the very best craftsmen. The materials used were of the highest quality, and so the pianos from this era are famed for being highly durable, retaining their quality for many decades.
This is Yamaha’s tallest model, and it has a warm and rich bass alongside a sweet and clear treble section that is also remarkably open and strong. The sound as a whole is further supported by its cross-braced frame, a feature that is no longer available with new Yamahas due to its being so expensive to manufacture.
The Yamaha YUX also uses higher-grade wood and felt for the hammers and dampers, when compared to a standard U3: it is at the very top of Yamaha’s U Series range of uprights. The action is light and quick, with good, balanced weighting that makes all passage work really smooth and controlled.
The YUX cabinet has been hand-finished, and this one is in excellent condition throughout. It is further distinguished by a vented front panel, which allows sound to come through this area and be more open and resonant as a result.
Overall, it is a highly versatile instrument suitable for students and professionals. It has been maintained and tuned to the highest standards, and will give many more decades of good service in the future.
