Being 10cm taller than the U1, the U3 has a fuller and more resonant tonal quality due to its longer strings, larger soundboard, and larger cabinet. And this is further enhanced by its use of a ‘floating’ soundboard, which the U1 does not contain. Another difference is the U3’s having a sostenuto middle pedal, similar to those found on most modern-day grand pianos.
